Falls

It is situated in 3km west from Talawakele town on Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District. The Falls derived its name from a near by tea estate. St.Clair's Fall is 80m high and hence 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. St.Clair's Falls comprises two falls called "Maha Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall") and "Kuda Ella" (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall") which is 50m high created by a tributary of Kotmale Oya.


St.clair is a very beautiful place. This waterfall has large amount of water. There fore it increases demand and beauty of this waterfall. St.clair is a western name. Before 1948 AD Sri Lanka was govern by British government. They used to grow tea in upcountry lands and export it to UK. In that time they hippies about this waterfall and place the name like this.
Many places of This region has nice and big tea estates. Thalawakele, Dayagama, Hatton, Great western, Hillwood, Blackwood, Horton plains, and various tea factories. You can visit these tea factories as well. Tamil workers are work in tea estates. This workers have political party called Sri Lanka workers congress and it's controlled by Mr. Thondaman.
Thalawakele has nice railway station and special points are also at there. Thalawakele rail way is narrow road and in little distance train travels up to several kilometers.


Devon Falls is a waterfall in Sri Lanka, situated 6 km west of Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya District on A7 highway. The falls is named after a pioneer English coffee planter called Devon, whose plantation is situated nearby the falls. The Waterfall is 97 meters high and ranked 19th highest in the Island.

Devon waterfalls of Sri Lanka is one of very beautiful waterfall of Sri Lanka and which is situated at Thalawakale of Sri Lanka. This falls is high above 1159m from sea level. This falls at between Thalawakele and Hatton and situated at 20mile place. This waterfall is height about 98m. We have to walk about kilometer to visit this waterfalls.

Devon waterfall is at Dimbula area of Thalawakele and very closed to St. Clair waterfall. There is a Kovil is at near Devon falls which is for warship of Tamil workers of Tea plantation. There is a bungalow which was made by British governor at 1923 in front of Devon falls. Several hotels and residential places near Devon waterfalls.
Visit Devon waterfall is some what easy task because Devon waterfalls at closed to Nuwaraeliya Hatton Main road. If you want to visit Devon waterfall when you travel to Nuwaraeliya please come in Hatton Thalawakele Nanuoya Nuwaraeliya road. Then you can visit both St. Clair and Devon waterfalls and visit tea estates tea bungalows and also tea factories.
